Meet a gastroenterologist
Today we would like to introduce you to Marina Alexandrovna Golubeva, a therapist and gastroenterologist at the Kazakhstan Sanatorium.
We talked to the doctor for whom medicine is not only a job, but also a vocation. For 29 years, she has not been used to giving up on difficulties. She is actively on the move every day and improves the quality of life of her patients.
Could you please tell us how you chose your profession?
— I followed my parents’ steps. My mother worked as a general practitioner for about 60 years and gave me a lot of knowledge.
Why did you choose primary care and gastroenterology?
— My strong understanding that primary care is the basis, the basis of medicine, helped me choose therapy as my main specialization. And gastroenterology is now in great demand. What these two areas have in common is that we should have knowledge in many other «narrow» specializations like dentistry, endoscopy, otorhinolaryngology, coloproctology. I also worked with occupational pathology and endocrinology. The knowledge and experience gained allow me to apply comprehensive approach when conducting health-resort treatment.
What is the most important thing for you in your work? And what’s the best part?
— You know what they say: a primary care physician can raise a light so that a person can see the many roads they can take. It turns out that the doctor suggests the right path and guides the person. It is equally important for the patient to leave with answers to their questions so that they understand what to do next. What to change in your lifestyle, in your diet, in your view of life.
The most pleasant thing is the feedback from patients.
Can we talk about how you gain strength outside of work? Tell us about your hobbies.
— My parents have always been involved in physical education and cultivated in me a love for sports activities. Previously, I professionally studied gymnastics and dancing. Now I love cycling, skiing, and occasionally go hunting with my dad, brother and my hunting dog.
I am sure that keeping animals is not only enjoying their unconditional love, but also a great responsibility.
