The Caucasian Mineral Waters is one of the most beautiful resorts of Russia with a rich history. Today we want to talk about some of the interesting sights of the city of Pyatigorsk.

Pyatigorsk TV tower is considered to be the highest in Europe. Its highest point is 1,069 meters. On September 14, 1979 the famous interview with Vladimir Vysotsky was recorded in the studio of the TV tower, of which a fragment of 8 minutes remained.

The plot of M. Lermontov’s famous novel A Hero of Our Time partially takes place on the territory of the Caucasian Mineral Waters. The objects described by the author are still extant in the historic center of Pyatigorsk, and thus for those who want to feel the atmosphere of Lermontov’s Caucasus, a visit is a must.

Mount Beshtau is the highest peak of the Caucasian Mineral Waters. This is a unique natural site: a deciduous forest grows at the foot, and subalpine grass meadows are at the top. Beshtau is translated from Turkic as five mountains. The city of Pyatigorsk was named in honor of this mountain.

The picturesque Chestnut Alley, or Pyatigorsk Broadway, until the 1990s was considered the longest walking alley in Europe. This title later passed to the Alagirskaya Chestnut Alley in North Ossetia.

Pyatigorsk tramway is another attraction of the Caucasian Mineral Waters. In Russia, narrow-gauge trams run only in Pyatigorsk and Kaliningrad. Pyatigorsk tramway is one of the main symbols of the city along with the Mashuk Mountain and the Eagle sculpture.
