- It was founded in 1825. At that time it was called the Yessentuki stan and was part of the Terek region.
- The construction of Spring well-room No. 17 was an important milestone in the development of the Yessentuki resort. It was the first solid building on the resort grounds. A resort park of 60 hectares was constructed around the spring. Then, drainage of the swampy area as well as the construction of the stone Spring Gallery No. 17 began. - In 1875 the first railroad was built in the town, which connected Yessentuki with other towns of the Caucasus Mineralnye Vody.
- In 1902 the first sanatorium for the treatment of gastrointestinal diseases was opened in Yessentuki.
- During the Great Patriotic War the city was occupied by German troops. However, after the liberation in 1943 Yessentuki quickly recovered and continued to develop as the resort city.
